i am originally from southern california and now live in NYC. i am obsessed with cooking, baking, and dining on delicious food, style and fashion, travel and adventures, creativity, my wonderful family, and of course, my home state.
however, i arrived in NYC six years ago as a freshman in college and post-graduation, decided to get a job here, so i often get mistaken for a "new yorker." i don't think so.
welcome to my collection of random musings and photos about life and love on both coasts.

I saw the cover of Time Out, or NY Mag, or some other magazine along my walk to work today. It said END OF THE 00’s*. Holy shit, I thought. This decade is OVER? At first I was shocked - time has truly flown by! But then, I actually got emotional for a little bit. I mean, the past decade has held many (almost every) important milestones for me. Of course there was devastating, ridiculous, terrible things (my parent’s divorce, September 11th, the world in general changing in so many ways).
But there was also incredible highs. Despite everything, the 00’s represent a part of me that can never return: the pinnacle of my youth and so much newness and excitement. Most of high school, moving to NYC, all of college, graduations, first jobs, first kisses, first boyfriends, first jobs, first apartments, and countless more “firsts” that can never happen again. I will miss you, 00’s.
I hope the 10’s bring as much success, health, and happiness as the 00’s overall did for me, my family, and friends.
*Weirdest decade name ever.
I hoard gift cards.
I finally want to redeem the gift certificate Christian got me for VALENTINE’S DAY for a massage and facial, so I went to find it in my gift card stash.
In it, I found a few other things:
- Hundreds of dollars to Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom
- At least $100 in Starbucks cards, combined
- $125 in Visa gift cards
- Victoria’s Secret & Sephora gift cards
- An envelope filled with $150 CASH from LAST CHRISTMAS.
WTF IS WRONG WITH ME? I shop at those stores all the time, get Starbucks every day, and yet LOVE to save the gift cards forever. I think my logic is, well one day, I might not have extra “fun” spending money, therefore I want to save the cards for a “rainy day.” That logic? Is flawed since I think most of the gift cards eventually DO expire and/or start charging fees per month. I have got to stop it.
I found the Spa gift card and am forcing myself to get a massage this weekend. Even though it pains me to use up the gift card (?!?! it’s free! it was a gift! i’m crazy!), I NEED some serious pampering.
I know you all have some fabulous recipes. Here’s the deal. Christian’s birthday is this week, right in the midst of his medical school finals (yuck, I know.) Therefore he wants to squeeze a small celebratation. Instead of a fancy birthday dinner out, he has requested me to prepare a meal for him, along with his favorite yellow cake with chocolate icing. I have the cake covered, but what should I make? He hinted at a Mexican menu, but I need something more exciting than your run of the mill tacos. It has to be special enough for his 25th birthday! Ideas?
I was in Michael’s today and picked up a few things for Christmas cards, etc.
Once I got to the register, I asked if they had any 40% off coupons (typically found in a Michael’s circular) that I could use. They didn’t (shocker) so I asked where I might find a circular in the future.
“Umm… I dunno… in the street, or….*shrug*”
REALLY, Michael’s worker? IN THE STREET? That’s the most logical place where I would find a craftstore weekly circular? She didn’t bother to have me sign up for the email list, or any other logical thing. She just basically told me to prostitute myself* for a $5 savings on a paper cutter. OKAY THEN.
*I may have exaggerated my deductions slightly for the purpose of this post.
